The GoodWe GW5000-SBP-US20 SBP-US Series is a 5kW split-phase, high-voltage AC-coupled retrofit inverter designed for residential battery storage, backup power, and microgrid applications in North America.

Its AC-coupled architecture makes it especially suitable for adding energy storage to an existing PV system without replacing the existing solar inverter.

The SBP-US platform is designed for off-grid operation, unbalanced load output, and microgrid functionality during blackouts. Its built-in autotransformer eliminates the need for an external autotransformer, while generator compatibility and optional EV charging add flexibility for advanced residential energy systems.

AC-Coupled Retrofit & Microgrid Capability

The GW5000-SBP-US20 is specifically designed as an AC-coupled retrofit solution. GoodWe states that the SBP-US supports off-grid applications and unbalanced output for load consumption without requiring an extra autotransformer. It is also designed for microgrid operation during blackouts, allowing the PV system to generate energy for supported loads even when the utility grid is unavailable. 

Battery & Backup Performance

The GW5000-SBP-US20 supports a nominal 5,000VA backup output with 120/240V split-phase operation. Maximum backup output with the grid can reach 10,000VA for 10 seconds when sufficient PV and battery power are available, while maximum output without the grid is 5,000VA. 

Microgrid Battery Note: Although the standard battery voltage range is 80–495V, GoodWe specifies that the maximum battery voltage is 450V for AC-coupled inverters in microgrid applications. 

Optional EV Charging

The SBP-US Series supports an optional 9.6kW AC Level 2 EV charger with selectable maximum continuous output current of 16A, 24A, 32A, or 40A. Configuration is managed through the app using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and the charging interface uses SAE J1772. The EV charger cable is 7.6 meters long and is ordered separately.
