The Fronius Primo GEN24 is a high-performance, single-phase grid-tied solar inverter designed for residential photovoltaic systems. Combining intelligent shade management, integrated backup functionality, advanced system monitoring, and active cooling, the GEN24 delivers efficient solar energy conversion with flexibility for future energy storage upgrades.
Unlike conventional grid-tied string inverters, the Primo GEN24 includes Fronius PV Point, which can supply a designated backup circuit directly from available solar production during a utility outage, without requiring a battery. Its battery-ready architecture also allows eligible systems to be upgraded to GEN24 Plus functionality through Fronius UP.storage.
The Fronius Primo GEN24 offers a practical advantage over traditional grid-tied solar inverters: its integrated PV Point backup feature.
When utility power is interrupted, PV Point can supply electricity from the connected solar array to a designated backup output, provided sufficient solar production is available. This allows compatible loads to operate during daylight hours without requiring a battery storage system.
PV Point is intended for a dedicated backup circuit rather than automatic whole-home backup. Available power varies with sunlight, and the output does not provide continuous power after solar production stops.
The Primo GEN24 is designed with future energy storage expansion in mind. Through the optional Fronius UP.storage software upgrade, an eligible GEN24 inverter can be converted to GEN24 Plus functionality, enabling connection to approved high-voltage battery storage systems.
Once upgraded and configured with compatible equipment, the inverter can support battery charging, stored-energy use, and expanded backup capabilities.
Full Backup functionality requires a compatible battery, external grid-isolation equipment, and an approved system configuration. The UP.storage upgrade and additional equipment are not included with the standard GEN24 inverter.
Fronius Dynamic Peak Manager is an integrated shade management algorithm that helps optimize solar production when modules experience partial shading.
Rather than relying entirely on external module-level optimizers, Dynamic Peak Manager continually evaluates operating conditions to identify the optimal power point for connected PV strings.
Combined with Fronius SuperFlex Design, the inverter accommodates a variety of residential roof layouts, including installations with different module orientations.
The Primo GEN24 includes built-in connectivity for Fronius Solar.web monitoring, allowing homeowners and installers to review solar production and system performance.
Ethernet and wireless networking support convenient connectivity, while Modbus communications enable integration with compatible monitoring and energy management equipment.
The inverter also supports Fronius Smart Meter integration for additional visibility into energy consumption and grid interaction.
