Plug In Solar Guide (2026): The No-Permit, No-Electrician Way to Cut Your Power Bill

  • MarylandHB 1532 (signed May 12, 2026) — Up to 1,200W
  • ConnecticutHB 5340 (Public Act 26-127) (signed June 4, 2026) — Up to 1,200W
  • VermontS.202 (signed June 2026) — Up to 1,200W
  • New HampshireSB 540-FN (signed July 3, 2026) — Up to 1,200W


States With Laws in Motion for Plug In Solar

 

The following states have active plug-in solar legislation introduced or under consideration but have not yet enacted statewide laws (as of July 2026):

  • CaliforniaSB 868 — Would establish a statewide framework for qualifying plug-in solar systems and simplify interconnection requirements.
  • Illinois — Plug-in solar legislation under development to authorize small residential plug-in systems.
  • Iowa — Proposed legislation would legalize plug-in solar systems up to 1,200W.
  • Massachusetts — Lawmakers are evaluating legislation to authorize residential plug-in solar devices.
  • Michigan — Plug-in solar legislation has been introduced for legislative consideration.
  • Minnesota — Lawmakers are considering legislation to permit qualifying plug-in solar systems.
  • New Jersey — Plug-in solar legislation has advanced and remains under consideration.
  • New York — Legislation has been introduced to create a legal framework for plug-in solar statewide.
  • Oregon — Plug-in solar legislation is under active consideration.
  • Pennsylvania — Legislators have introduced proposals to legalize qualifying plug-in solar systems.

Europe Already Figured This Out
